Her Excellency Philda Nani Kereng, High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has called for stronger collaboration between Botswana and Nigeria in business, culture, education, agriculture, creative industries and human capital development.

Speaking at a special dinner marking Botswana’s 60th Independence Anniversary, Her Excellency warmly appreciated the presence of distinguished Nigerian and Botswana guests, including Hon. Yakubu Dogara, CFR; HRM Ifeanyi Eke; Engr. Cheta Okwuosa of Oilserve Limited; Mr. Gaokgakala Daniel Lemmenyane, CEO of the National Arts Council of Botswana; Mr. Tebogo Etsile Matebesi, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Arts; Professor Hillary Inyang; diplomats and other dignitaries.

She explained that the dinner was deliberately organised as a gathering of selected individuals who have demonstrated friendship with Botswana or have the potential to contribute to stronger relations between both countries.

Reflecting on Botswana’s development journey since independence in 1966, the High Commissioner highlighted the country’s investment in education, human capital, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and the responsible utilisation of its diamond resources as key elements of its national development.

She also showcased Botswana’s achievements in beef production, livestock management, agriculture, sports and the creative industry, while expressing interest in strengthening partnerships with Nigeria, particularly through Nollywood, cultural exchange and creative-sector collaborations.

Her Excellency noted that Nigerians have made significant contributions to Botswana in education, medicine, business and other sectors, describing the relationship between both countries as one with enormous potential for mutual benefit.

She called for increased movement of people, investment, knowledge and culture between Nigeria and Botswana, urging citizens of both countries to explore opportunities to do business, learn from one another and build stronger ties.

“Let us celebrate knowing that we have an assignment to build these two countries together. Learn from Botswana and we will learn from you as well,” she said.

The celebration featured a group of Nigerian  Choir performances by August Coral Abuja, further highlighting the shared cultural connections between Botswana and Nigeria.
